On behalf of the National Hand Dance Association (NHDA), I want to
invite you to
join us.
We are soliciting members from the Washington Metropolitan area, and
have expanded to Baltimore, Philadelphia, New Jersey and Texas. We
intend to expand the Association into other metropolitan areas
throughout the United States and eventually the world. The purpose of
the association is to preserve, educate and promote the art form of
hand dance. Our goal is to perpetuate (pass on to our youth) hand
dance in African American communities and maintain the nation's
capital as the birthplace and leader in this effort.
There is nothing more
beautiful than the concentrated power of hand dancing and there is nothing
greater than passing on the history of the art form to the community and
the world. We demonstrate hand dancing at special events and in schools,
as well as provide a vehicle for disseminating information regarding the
history of the dance.
The Association is taking hand
dance to a new generation through the schools and teaching the youth about
the dance tradition and those who made it so popular. The Association is
currently chronicling the history of hand dance through video,
photographs, written and oral histories. In so doing, we are ensuring the
preservation and availability of this important information.
Again, I cordially invite you to join this dynamic and
exciting Association. We look forward to the continued growth and
community acceptance of the Association and hope you will join us in
pursuing its important mission. For more information about the National
Hand Dance Association (NHDA), please feel free to contact me at (202)
